Fraxy - The Basics

Page history last edited by Nutman217 1 yr ago

FRAXY is not just a game, but a whole bunch of junk all at once:

There are 3 primary Executables -

Config.exe

Config.exe allows you to set up various options that will apply to gameplay:

Draw

Window Size

You can adjust the window size here. Since the default 320x240 window is less than a 1/4 of the typical PC monitor's dimensions, one of the other settings is highly reccomended. The windowed 640x480 runs a lot faster than the fullscreen mode, so it is a good call for lower end systems.

Effect

Adjusts the amount of blur trailing, and effect sprites generated by the various kinds of weapons fire.

Draw Type

A few preset 'Draws' for the non-picky and lazy people.

Background

The background can be rendered 3 ways:

None: It is not rendered.

Simple: Only one image, the main bacground image, is displayed, without transparency.

Normal: The main background image has a scrolling transparent layer over it.

!

Rader Draw

Determines what is displayed on the radar.

Core Only: Only cores are shown - (Yellow dots)

Enemy Only: All enemy parts are shown - (Non-core parts are red dots)

All: Power up items are shown in addition to the above - (Blue dots)

Font

Font and size of font is selected for all in-game text displays.

Draw2

EM bullet color

Default: Bullets are a orange color.

Change: Bullet color is determined by the Hue, Saturation and Lightness setting below.

Monochromizing: Same as change, but same setting results in different colors. Probably applies some other effect, but I don't know what.

Sound

!

Don't Load Sound File

Completely disables loading of SFX and BGM files, even when a Try file calls for them.

!

Play Sound

The game's sound effects will play.

!

Play BGM

The BGM will play.

!

Input

This section allows you to map keys to the buttons of your keyboard, mouse, or gamepad.

Control Mode

Mouse: Mouse cursor is primary aiming device.

Keyboard1: Directional movement aims your ship, using the Direction Lock key keeps you pointed the same direction while you move, instead.

Keyboard2: Aiming is controlled by spinning the ship with the Turn Left and Turn Right keys.

Of the 3 modes, "Mouse" seems the least clumsy, although Keyboard1 has potential for laptop users who lack a standard mouse.

Player

Entry Name

The name attached to the beginning of Replay Files, and displayed as the player when viewing a replay. A "user name" so to speak.

!

Ship Type

Can select one of 3 kinds, though the Tanker is likely to run out of ammo before killing any large bosses. A description is displayed for the one you select.

Main Slot/Sub Slots

Various weapons can be loaded onto your ship, up to 5 total. Movement speed is alleged to be penalized for each weapon beyond the first, in the readme.

!

Bullet: Standard rapid-fire shot.

Blaster: Explosive shot, slower firing, but higher damage and hits all parts near the impact point.

Winder Bullet: Shoots an outward spray of bullets, then takes a while to recharge. Imprecise, but a lot of damage.

Stun Bullet: Stuns parts hit, temporarily preventing attack/move actions.

Stun Blaster: Stuns all parts near the impact point.

Charge Blaster: Charge up the blaster by holding Fire down then let loose! This is very powerful. If you do not fire after a while of holding it while it is at max charge, it will 'overcharge' and become a destructive multi-blast projectile!

Shield: Temporary invulnerability to weapons fire. Physical impacts still fatal.

Blur Decoy: A phantom double that enemy AI will treat as you, for purposes of Aiming/homing/chasing.

Overloader: Refire rate of all weapons/systems is boosted briefly but energy won't speed up as well.

Free Play

The settings in this section become the "default" settings when you select free play. They can still be altered once in game, but this page defines their starting state.

Rank Type

Normal: Enemy rank increases proportional to score value.

Lock: Enemy rank is fixed at the starting value

Random: Enemy rank is completely random.

Enemy rank affects movement speed, and firing patterns. An enemy at rank 100 is much more deadly than the rank 50 version of itself.

Base Rank

Determines the rank level of the first enemy you face.

Enemy Count

The maximum number of "active" creations that the game will allow. If the current number is less than this value, there is a chance that the game will spawn another enemy. This is limited by the fact that if there are enough parts in play, the game will not spawn another enemy, even if there is only one "active" creation in play.

BGM Change

The number of enemies which must die, at which point the game randomly selects a file from the BGM folder to play. Note that filenames must contain no spaces.

Default BGM

The BGM which will be played first.

Show the Message of BGM file name

File name can be displayed on BGM load, if this is on.

Background

The default background when the game loads, or starts freeplay mode.

Other

Language

Select the language of in-game text.

Game Style

Normal : Is normal

Extreme: Your bullet range is greatly reduced, and the "over loader" effect is always on.

Fun: Your speed is increased, there is no drain on energy for weapon usage, and there is no weapon charge time so weapons can be used continuously.
