Evan Cate And Salitrynski This is the trials that Evan and Salitrynski have been working on for about a month. Just finished in time, because Salitrynski leaves for a month and a half the day after it was finished! This thing is HARD to do. Yes, some stuff is overpowered, but it is still awesome. Have fun!

I like the format, so no complaints.

Maybe we could be more wordy with the Try descriptions: There won't be as many as there are bosses, so space isn't such a concern.

Unless you don't wanna, that's ok. I'm just sayin, we don' needa worry.

Hmm...yeah, that could work, and it would probably add some more depth to the try (or something like).
Sounds good to me.

Not that I was a sterling example... heh.

Would anyone be interested in a program that helps you make Try files? I could probably make one in a couple of days...

omfg, *raises hand, like, right now*

I think it'd be pretty darn awesome if you could do that. D:

Anonymous said

I probably won't be able to work much on it until after school ends (only 3 weeks left :D). So don't expect much until late-June/early-July.

Finally! Project G's first stage is done to at least some satisfaction. Again, feel free to play it out, and I do need the best "no-death" times and scores. This is because I plan to create a ranking system (E-D-C-B-A-S-G) at the end of this 25 stage monster.

Well, it's pretty good. The only complaint I have is the background (it was disorienting and was starting to give me a headache by the end >_<). Anwyay, 171.5s.

Anonymous said

at 6:19 am on Jun 10, 2008

I thought that the background was a good bit of scripting myself........

Anonymous said

at 8:15 am on Jun 10, 2008

186.5, but that was my first try. And I agree with sharky. It was all really well done, I was surprised. Especially when the screen went black for Chapter One, and the Warning for the boss came.

Anonymous said

at 1:11 pm on Jun 10, 2008

Thanks for the comments. I need scores, fellas. Second, thanks for the tips, too. 171.5 seems to be the fastest time thus far, now that I've checked. Top score, gentlemen?

Anonymous said

at 1:11 pm on Jun 10, 2008

@NightKev: Which background are you talking about? The re-entry dive, or the water?

Anonymous said

at 1:13 pm on Jun 10, 2008

@bukkarooo: You were "surprised" by the Chapter intro and the Warning screen? I need more info so I know WHY that worked... so I can make more of it. ;)

Anonymous said

at 1:15 pm on Jun 10, 2008

Oh, and anyone who needs/wants input into Project G, send me ideas and stuff... and your full name so I can put it into the Credits chapter I'm scripting. Like this: <first name> "Nickname" <last name>. Or just the nickname you want in the credits.

did you get my e-mail zax?

Anonymous said

at 3:00 pm on Jun 10, 2008

ignore that last one i just checked my mail, lol

Anonymous said

at 6:55 pm on Jun 10, 2008

@Zax: Well, the planet+stars unmoving bg was the disorienting one (I almost ran into the ships multiple times), while the water one was the one that was giving me a headache >_<... Aside from those issues, though, I thought it was very well done and a good Prologue mission.

Anonymous said

at 9:05 pm on Jun 10, 2008

I was saying I thought that stuff was good, and I was surprised such high quality stuff could be done with Try Files haha.

Anonymous said

at 1:04 pm on Jun 11, 2008

@bukkaroo: Thanks. I need the encouragement.
@NightKev: Because of the static display of the astronomy program I used to generate the backgrounds, and the idea of the player diving into Earth's gravity well, I decided to make the planetary approach backgrounds static.
And by the way, for those who are interested: the "ZOrbital" creation is in fact a close copy (with docking bay activated) of the final construction of the International Space Station.

nice touch

Anonymous said

at 12:43 pm on Jun 17, 2008

I've decided to go away from large background scenery in favor of smaller overlapping backgrounds. So, instead, I now need some FRAXY mechanical questions answered:

* How far can a player full boost in pixel distance before a background completely fades into being?
* Why on earth is my background goofing up at the edge like that? (script on my userpage)
* What is the largest file size (kB) of background that can be loaded during play without any noticable lag?

Once I get all these questions answered, I can create an array of backgrounds, as many as I want, and just upload and change them as the player moves around during a Try.

"Evan Cate And Salitrynski": Ok look, 500,000 core HP is a VERY BAD THING. Not testing your Trys before releasing them is a VERY BAD THING. Making almost impossible bosses/trys is a VERY BAD THING. Please, try harder next time. Also, TEST YOUR TRY FILES BEFORE RELEASING THEM KTHX!!! The death event for Yiazmat.fed (kill the three exploding tanks) doesn't work, which means I have to manually kill the core (which has... 500k HP...).

0/10 For the "Trials" try files because they're, well, way too fucking hard.

Project G UPDATE: I've listened to a number of tester comments, and the Orbital will be fixed, the waves rearranged by direction for newbs, minibosses added, ranking system installed, voiceovers added, and music rewritten. First up is waves and minibosses (almost done already). Version 0.002 should be out by next Friday. Thanks for the continuing support, everybody!

Sigh, I apologize for being harsh in my previous two comments; I was just extremely frustrated by the difficulty of the trys (especially considering you didn't indicate it was going to be impossible-level difficulty). Next time, Evan/Salit, just, playtest your trys multiple times and make sure everything works, and indicate the difficulty level. | Zax: nice!

The Project G update is up now, a WEEK early. Turns out that I had some extra time and I hammered out and tested the first update pretty quick. My personal best is 289300 points this time, and 175.0 seconds. Comments and suggestions are welcome, including the names for the Alpha drone, the Alpha gunship, and the first boss. Keep it pro, fellas. ;)
